Yoga has been a powerful tool to promote relaxation, relieve stress and boost emotional health and happiness.

It also improves flexibility and posture.

Every year millions of people join yoga classes to enjoy the great benefits yoga gives to our bodies and minds.

Most of the beginners get confused to understand the various types of yoga and its effects, just like I had.

So I had to read multiple articles and watch yoga videos to get the complete idea on different yoga categories and its poses.

I don’t want any of my readers to face those problems. So I have come up with the 6 different types of yoga you’ll need to know about.

Hot Power Yoga
This one is particularly the most popular and powerful yoga practice for the ones who want to boost energy and develop more inner power and ease.

Power yoga is more like a workout.

It’s active than other yoga techniques. Power yoga is performed more quickly and with added cores and upper body exercises.

Power yoga includes 26 poses and 2 breathing exercises.

Performed in a 105 Fahrenheit and 40% humidity, power yoga is great for weight loss.

I don’t recommend complete beginners to start immediately with hot power yoga until you’ve opened up your body as it’s a stronger approach.

So how will you open up?

Restorative/ Yin Yoga
Its beginner friendly and anybody between ages 8 to 80 can do it.

It doesn’t require much of a muscle work rather it increases flexibility and encourages the feeling of release.

Just simply stay on a position and hold your pose for few minutes (usually 30 seconds to 2 minutes) and then change it to another. In between the bridge you’ll practice staying at a meditative state.

Muscles are allowed to relax and it helps them open up.

It is really effective when it comes to recover and heal anxiety.

In addition, it encourages physical, mental, and emotional relaxation.

You’ll feel more relaxed and energetic after performing this yoga.

Hatha Yoga
It’s slower and gentle yoga practice that is great for the stretched and more flexible body.

You’ll have to hold your posture for a few breaths and then immediately change it to another. It’s a combination of movement and breath.

After performing this you’ll generally feel more relaxed and stretched out. So I, prefer to perform this before going to bed.

Vinyasa Yoga
Also known as the flowing yoga. It develops muscle strength and gets them stronger. It’s more like an athletic and dynamic yoga.

Vinyasa yoga links breathe and movement. You’ll change your posture with few breaths allowing yourself to flow between postures.

It’s usually practiced with sensual movement, pleasant sound and in a dark room.

It is a popular mind and body workout.

Kundalini Yoga
This one is old and practiced mostly as a religious practice. But nowadays it seems to be available in many yoga classes.

Kundalini yoga is a spiritual and physical practice where it incorporates dynamic movement, deep breathing, and chanting mantras.

It’s effective at developing inner peace and calmness. Performing this yoga awakens energy which is believed to be Kundalini Chakra.

Ashtanga Yoga
Ashtanga is also similar to Vinyasa yoga. It links to breathe and physical movement.

There are six different series of specifically chained poses. As you breathe you’ve to move through a series of postures.

It’s physically demanding and it produces sweat which is great for weight loss. Moreover, it keeps you more active and relaxed.
